Sesquicentennial State Park ("Sesqui") is right in Northeast Columbia near you, great for walking and a lake. Lake Wateree and Lake Murray are close for boating and fishing.
For culture: the South Carolina State Museum, Columbia Museum of Art, and EdVenture children's museum. Downtown's Soda City Market fills Main Street with food and makers every Saturday.

Woodcreek Farms in Elgin and Cobblestone Park in Blythewood offer golf and club life right in your area.
